FNBFA STATUS OF WOMEN ESSAY PRIZES ($250) GUIDELINES

Objective

To increase awareness of feminist issues and to promote feminist scholarship among New Brunswick students.

Eligibility for the prizes

The contest will be open to female and male undergraduate students on New Brunswick campuses. Two ( 2) prizes ( each valued at $250.00) will be awarded :one to a students in the first or second year of undergraduate studies, and one to a student in the third or subsequent years.

Guidelines

Essays should be:

a) written in English or French;
b) typed double-spaced and should include a title page, that student's home address, a bibliography and an abstract;
c) prepared in the framework of an undergraduate course;
d) recommended and forwarded to FNBFA by the professor teaching the course.

Not more than two ( 2) essays per class should be submitted by the professor. Essays should not be marked.

Criteria for Judging Essays

a) Relevance to feminism
b) Style and organization
c) Documentation and research approach

Deadline for Submissions and Date of Judging

Essays written within the regular academic year will be eligible for the contest. All essays must be submitted to the FNBFA by May 31 of that year. The essays will be judged during the course of the summer and the winner will be announced at the beginning of the following academic year.

The Selection Committee

The members of the FNBFA Status of Women Committee will select the recipient of the prize subject to the approval of the Board of Directors of FNBFA. Professors of Women's Studies and other disciplines may be invited to act as resource people. The decision of the selection committee is final.

Essays submitted for the contest will become property of FNBFA.
