The activities of the Status of Women committee were suspended following a Motion at the FNBFA Plenary Session on April 20, 2007. This decision is reflected in article 14.5 of the Minutes of this meeting. As such, the Status of Women Committee's Essay Contest is also suspended.
1. The Status of Women Committee shall be a standing committee of the FNBFA.
2. The Committee's responsibilities shall be to:
(a) advise the FNBFA on all matters that pertain to the status of women;
(b) propose policies and guidelines concerning women to the FNBFA Board;
(c) advise the FNBFA on lobbying strategies to be undertaken on behalf of women;
(d) promote the interests and concerns of women and discourage discriminatory practices that affect them;
(e) serve as a source of information on issues of concern to women and provide guidance to FNBFA staff in data collection and dissemination of such information;
(f) act as an advisory committee to local faculty associations and local status of women committees seeking information and/or advice on issues of particular concern to women;
(g) to provide information on positive action policies implemented elsewhere as they pertain to the status of women.
COMPOSITION
1. The Committee shall consist of a representative of each of the six member associations of FNBFA who is interested in promoting the status of women. Members will normally serve a two (2) year term of office, renewable once, with provision for overlapping terms.
2. The Committee shall select one of its members to serve as Chair for a two (2) year term. The Chair shall have the full right to vote at all meetings.
3. An FNBFA staff member shall be a non voting member of the Committee and shall act as secretary.
4. The quorum for all meetings of the Committee shall be three (3) members.
5. All questions shall be decided by a majority of votes cast at a meeting of the Committee, with any question failing in the case of a tie vote.
6. All other matters of procedure of the Committee shall be determined by the Committee.
7. Any vacancies which occur on the Committee shall be filled within a reasonable time by the appropriate faculty association.
8. Any member of the Committee may resign upon giving written notice thereof to the Chair, a copy of which shall be sent to the President of the resigning member's local association.
APPOINTMENT PROCEDURES
1. The Secretary of the FNBFA shall send a letter to the President of each local association requesting that a member who is interested in promoting the interests of the Committee be appointed.
2. Vacancies and appointments shall be announced to the general membership.
MEETINGS
The Committee shall meet at least three (3) times a year. Meetings shall normally be held one month prior to a meeting of the FNBFA Board.
REPORTING
1. The Chair of the Committee shall report regularly to the FNBFA Board.
2. The Committee shall prepare a report to be presented at the FNBFA Annual Meeting.
